The Trustees are looking for a Senior Art Curator to devise and implement an ambitious Arts Policy for Harbour House which generates community through active engagement in the visual arts and broadens the demographic of the range of people who stand to benefit from the programme of activities made possible by the charity. The Curator will manage Harbour House and its staff.

As Senior Art Curator, you will be responsible for delivering the vision and implementing the arts policy. You will be directly answerable to the Board of Trustees through regular review and performance review. You will have operational responsibility for the running of Harbour House with staff reporting to you. You will also be mentored by a senior figure in the art world from outside the Trust and assisted, if deemed necessary, by an experienced fundraising consultant.

The Arts Policy will be implemented in an incremental, measured and determined way in order to minimise the risk of over-reaching or over-extending the Trust's resources. A key challenge for the Curator will be to work with the Trustees in developing a realistic plan for the delivery of an Arts Policy over the next three years and beyond.

The candidate will be a senior curator with relevant experience in community engagement and fund-raising. They will need to demonstrate the following skills, qualities and aptitudes:

  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary art and of the arts world, including drafting of grant applications.
  • The ability to build creative and supportive relationships with partnership organisations.
  • Vision, commitment and ambition on behalf of the charity in developing an Arts Policy.
  • The ability to manage staff kindly and respectfully and to bring the best out of them.
  • Willingness to work to a charity's Board of Trustees with an understanding of charity law and official guidance.
  • Empathy for the ethos and vision of the charity.

We are looking for a candidate with good all-round people skills and sound budgeting abilities. The successful applicant needs to be organised, efficient and a clear communicator. As Senior Art Curator, they will bring leadership to the charity at a crucial stage of its development.

To register your interest, please email the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees via the button below with a cv including the names of two referees and a letter of application by 14 November.

Interviews are scheduled for Thursday 9 December at Harbour House.
