Job Details

What you’ll do?

You’ll make our customer experience in the lead upto Christmas at our Selfridges concession store one they won’t forget. Whether they’re rushing through for a quick visit or have time to really browse, you’ll make sure they leave with the books they were looking for.
You'll need to be able to discuss a wide selection of genres, like Children's Books, Fashion, Travel and Cookery. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do so, for our Booksellers, nothing’s too much effort.

That means you’ll be actively approaching customers and building strong relationships through your passion of books, as well as sharing details on any of the great offers we might have. Some of the books you’ll be working with can be valued up to £700 so you’ll always need to ensure they’re being displayed as they should be. No matter what you’re doing, it needs to be completed to the highest standard so that our customers leave wanting to come back.

What’s in it for you?
We’re a company that values its people, for those who want to progress, this could be the start of a whole new career. We’d love you to grow with us, so you’ll have access to our Retail Academy, where we have numerous training opportunities to help fulfil your potential. Don’t forget, while you’re with us you’ll also benefit from; up to 50% discount in our High Street Stores, flexible working policies, childcare vouchers and many more.

Who we’re looking for
As a Bookseller you’ll need a real flair for upselling our products and will need to have the confidence to make excellent product recommendations, showcasing our titles in an enticing way. Experience in a Bookselling environment would be highly advantageous for this role. Most importantly however, we’re looking for people who are truly passionate about books, great listeners, confident in selling, and who have a healthy dose of ambition. With the backing of your team, we’ll give you all the skills you need to succeed. And for those who want to get on, we’ll positively encourage you. As a Bookseller, there’s nothing stopping you becoming a future Store Manager or working in one of our Head Offices! At WHSmith we aim to find solutions that benefit us both. There are No Limits when it comes to your career at WHSmith.

About us
For most of the last 225 years, books have played an integral part in the history of WHSmith. We’ve been there to see the likes of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters and Leo Tolstoy make their mark on literature, and we continue to be enthralled and surprised by writers of the 21st century such as J. K. Rowling, George R. R. Martin, Ian McEwan and Terry Pratchett.

Company

WHSmith started in 1792 with a small news vendor in Little Grosvenor Street, London, followed by the opening of our first bookstall in Euston Station in 1848. We quickly established ourselves as the favoured newsagent, stationers and bookseller opening stores across the UK. From this point on, there has been no looking back.
