Job description

We are looking for hardworking and driven individuals that can help support the policy team to deliver ambitious and exciting projects. The candidate would need to react at pace and respond to issues as they arise.

We have two exciting roles within our department, of which these are listed below:

Strategy and Programmes Team

The successful candidate will be joining the Strategy and Programmes team. The team is at the very centre of the Maritime directorate. We primarily work to ensure that Maritime works efficiently and effectively by providing administrative support through, comprehensive project planning, scopes and crafting dashboards to discuss important metrics. You will support the Programme Management Office with management tools, robust governance to oversee the work being carried out and ensuring work is delivered to tight timescales.

Maritime Technology

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop subject matter expertise on autonomy and remote operations, and you will apply this expertise to promote maritime technology and innovation in the UK and help to ensure that this growing part of the sector continues to develop at pace. You will also be part of other technology projects as they emerge.

This is a fantastic opportunity which not only allows you to work with a range of stakeholders, but to also work with the latest Technology that the Maritime Industry has to offer.
 

Responsibilities

Strategy and Programmes Team

• Working with all members of the PPM team in planning and orchestrating administrative support, ensuring the team’s priorities are met and best practices are upheld
• Being responsible for the workforce planning and HR support for the Maritime directorate. This will involve creating bespoke job adverts and working with government partners to deliver regular recruitment exercises
• Supporting the HEO in actively gathering information and collating data on maritime developments across the sector
• Developing knowledge and understanding of Maritime opportunities and needs of the sector
• Leading a fast-paced and considerable workload with a degree of autonomy, taking care of day to day projects and ad-hoc support as it arises

Maritime Technology

• Supporting projects to develop maritime technology in collaboration with key industry partners, ensuring the continuation of the UK's leadership role
• Ensuring our work helps drives the Directorate towards accomplishing the ambitions set out in Maritime 2050 using excellent internal and external engagement, particularly in building relationships with key partners such as the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA)
• Working with colleagues across DfT and industry representatives to ensure coherent and results-oriented policy is in place to support the department’s wider ambitions
• Preparing Ministerial briefings, responses to invitations and relevant correspondence on maritime technology policy
• Leading a fast-paced and interesting workload with a high degree of autonomy, looking after day-to-day policy and communications issues and ad-hoc tasks

About you

You will be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role. Being a team player with the ability to work on your own initiative and under pressure.

You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences, maximising both impact and understanding. You are someone who gains rapport quickly with others as you build effective working relationships with both colleagues and stakeholders.

You will have exceptional organisational skills, have the ability to manage your time effectively, organising your work and prioritise workloads to maximise your productivity.

Things you need to know Security

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

Selection process details
