Overview
 

The Multi Audio Sound Supervisor is responsible for the seamless delivery of the local sports commentary across Discovery’s / Eurosport  linear and digital platforms produced from the London Technology Hub in Chiswick.  The facility comprises of Production and Sound Control Rooms, Commentary booths and Multi-Function Rooms which are operatorial 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.                                                                     

 

The Multi Audio Sound Supervisor takes a lead role on site as a primary contact for production partners regarding multi language commentary, which is monitored and mixed for every live event broadcast out of the facility. Working as part of the onsite audio broadcast team, you are responsible for ensuring the multi audio suites, the audio output and the junior sound operators are delivering to the highest standards.

 

This role will require weekend and evening work, schedule will be heavily dependent on the live sporting event calendar but predominantly standard office hours will apply.  Flexibility is key and from time to time there may be a requirement to work on location internationally.


Responsibilities
 

  • Responsible for ensuring the sound check, set up and monitoring of audio is delivered effectively across all platforms by the commentary control team. Work in partnership with commentators, Commentary coordinators and MCR to implement the plans for multi audio execution and communicate these needs to wider teams. Daily management of the Junior sound operators within the facility, ensuring staffing needs are covered and deliverables are supported. Support with technical schematic explainers and associated documentation as required Work in partnership with the bookings team and facility management team to ensure efficient utilisation of all technical and human resources  Ensure all set up and testing is done in a timely manner and configurations are to the agreed standard.  Be a key point of contact for all local commentary workflow regarding upcoming productions. Central point of contact for engineering in terms of audio requirements for monitoring and mixing multi stream audio. Oversee upgrades and testing of audio broadcast and corporate systems to ensure all equipment is functioning to the desired standard. Efficient management of equipment failure to ensure minimal disruption to transmissions Provide weekly audio reports and follow up on any issue.  Actively monitor the Junior sound team performance, ensuring the department is maintaining the highest standard of delivery and both staff and team goals are achieved. Create, develop and support team training and skill enhancement, to guarantee operators are agile and adaptable to all new technical development and freelancers are fully up to date and trained. Identify key development opportunities for improved workflows, system development and enhanced reporting.  Driving forward the system and software development needs for the facility alongside the Sound Supervisors and Engineering team, overseeing testing, implementation, and relevant training.  Promote sharing of best practice and process change opportunities to support an efficient and effective department. Other duties as required


Qualifications
 

  • Thorough understanding of multi audio broadcasting   Working knowledge of source package creations and audio tagging processes.  Working knowledge of IP Audio delivery and automix processes. Knowledge of the sports audio production process and the technical requirements needed to deliver the production. Proven ability to successfully form and manage relationships with production partners and clients in an international environment Track record of excellence as an audio guarantee in a live broadcast environment. Experience of managing sound operators in a busy live environment. Full understanding of shift base work and freelancer support network. Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, motive and inspire direct reports. Working knowledge of recruitment processes, goal setting, development tracking and review process. Pro-active in troubleshooting, problem solving and avoidance of issues Excellent communication skills and ability to represent Production Operations at all levels Strong team player and solid interpersonal skills
