Job description

Our Licensing Caseworkers provide support for the Traffic Commissioners and enable them to undertake their duties in relation to the licensing and regulation of goods and public service vehicle operators. They ensure that operators and applicants have provided sufficient information to allow their applications to be processed and provide help and advice where applications are incomplete.

We are following government guidelines and currently working remotely and if successful at interview you will be provided with IT equipment to carry out your duties until we can return to the office. However the successful candidate will have to attend the office to complete training for the role and will be expected to be able to work in the office when restrictions are eased.

There are 10 permanent roles and 1 fixed term appointment available.
 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Process applications and assess against the legal and mandatory criteria
• Act as the first point of contact for customer and operator enquiries
• Refer cases to the Traffic Commissioners which do not meet the criteria for granting
• Interpret legislation and regulations to ensure cases are compliant

About you

You will have impeccable time management and organisational skills, capable of managing several tasks with conflicting deadlines and competing resources. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills capable of efficiently communicating with the wider team and members of the public. You have a strong knowledge of IT systems and Microsoft applications particularly Word, Excel and Outlook. You will also have good analytical and problem solving skills.

Additional information

A reserve list will be held for 12 months for candidates who are successful at interview, but to whom we are unable to offer a role to straightaway.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

We are closely monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus, and will be following central Government advice as it is issued. How to Apply

As part of the application process you will be required to provide evidence of 3 behaviours. Each behaviour example will be limited to 250 words.

Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be conducted using the lead behaviour, Delivering at a pace. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

The sift is due to take place 2nd & 3rd December 2021.

Interviews are likely to be held 15th-17th December 2021.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

We’ve designed the selection process specifically for this role. So your assessment could include:

You’re encouraged to become familiar with the role profile, as you may be assessed against any of the criteria recorded within.

Please note, the Fixed Term opportunity will be for a period of up to 12 months with a possibility of permanency, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Internal applicants will be appointed on inward loan and subject to the terms of the agreed inward loan agreement. The expectation is that you will return to your previous post at the end of the loan period, which will need to be agreed with your line manager in advance.

If you're employed by a non-departmental public body (NDPB) by moving jobs this will involve a change of employer and you may break the statutory rules on continuity of employment.

For successful candidates, offers of employment will be made in merit order. Offers for permanent posts will be made first to those scoring highest in the interview followed by an offer for the fixed term appointment.
