Job description

As part of DfTc’s architecture team, within the Digital Services division you will be passionate about emerging technologies in data, AI and cloud and keen to support the business in developing new ways of solving problems. You will already be involved in digital development in some capacity and are keen to look at technology from a holistic perspective. You will work closely with architects, data scientists, developers, engineers, user researchers and change managers to deliver full stack solutions that work with emerging technologies.

You will be an ambassador for architecture in Digital Services and across DfTc supporting the business in developing their digital ambitions. You will be comfortable discussing technical issues with non-technical stakeholders and have a drive to make technology an agent for change. You will have a pro-active approach to problem solving and be creative in delivering solutions that both fix problems and move DfT towards a better managed, cost-effective digital future.
 

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to

• Develop architectural patterns and solutions to complex DfT data and digital problems.
• Understand and champion DfTc’s digital and application principles, patterns and standards, advising stakeholders and supplier son how to use them.
• Work with the organisation, data community and Digital Service to deliver multiple projects that require architectural thinking to meet their delivery targets.
• Embed architecture governance through the Architecture Change Board ensuring architecture alignment technical designs, DfTc’s architecture principles and standards and communicating their decisions.
• Assess and assure new products and applications delivered by 3rd parties and ensure that DfTc has up to date knowledge of its digital and application estate across several directorates through maintenance and support of the architecture portfolio.
• Support the production and implementation of the DfTc family’s digital and technology strategy.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, focused and passionate about technology. You will be self-motivated, capable of prioritising work, leading projects and campaigns and working across the wider team to create a harmonious environment, focused on the technological development of the Department.

This is a technical role, you will have prior experience in a similar discipline, knowledge of system development, software engineering and in particular, new technology in cloud-based platforms. You will have an analytical mindset, a keen eye for detail and the ability to think proactively to find solutions to problem areas.

DDaT Allowance

• The Associate technical Architect role is part of the DDaT profession and attracts an enhanced pay scale which is mapped to capability levels. The successful candidates starting salary will be determined by performance at interview and assessed capability level. There are two components to DDaT pay - base pay and DDaT allowance.
• The role may also attract a DDaT allowance of up to £10,000 The amount, if afforded is determined by several factors one of which is assessed capability level.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo yearly capability assessments which may result in pay increases or decreases. A drop in capability in any given assessment period results in 12 month pay protection to allow candidates to retain prior capability level.

• Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical
Demonstrable ability in translating technology to non-technical people. You can speak on behalf of technical teams and facilitate relationships with indirect stakeholders.

• Governance
Understanding of how governance and assurance works for technology and digital products and solution, ability to assess risk and deliver assurance recommendations.

• Making and guiding decisions
Ability to research business and technology problems and make recommendations that take into account all viewpoints Able to influence decision-makers and identify technical disputes between direct peers and local stakeholders

• Strategy
An understanding of the purpose and application of strategy, standards, patterns, policies, roadmaps and vision statements and an ability to contribute and develop them as architectural assets

• Turning business problems into technical design.
Experience in designing systems characterised by different levels of risk, by business and technical complexity and their meaningful impact. Understanding of current and emerging technologies and ability to identify appropriate patterns

• Understanding the whole context.
Understanding of how your work supports the team. Ability to identify wider influences and how they apply. Ability to understand the broader technology and organisational context and articulate how your work supports both.

Sift & Interview Dates

The sift is due to take place week commencing 29th November 2021.

Interviews are due to take place week commencing 6th December 2021.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
