Job description

As a Communication and Engagement Manager, you will work in an innovative and exciting IT directorate which is at the heart of transformation in the Agency. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the staff within this directorate are informed, connected and engaged, using a variety of communication channels such as weekly newsletters, staff forums, engagement events, wellbeing initiatives and many more!

By developing engaging content and effective delivery plans using audience insight, channel expertise and your creative communications skills, you will help DVLA deliver against its strategic ambitions.

You will be the single point of contact and management for all communication (internal and external) and engagement activities within the home directorate. You will work with the Agency's central communication team and be part of the Agency's Communication and Engagement network. You will advise and support senior managers and Directors whilst developing and driving both Directorate communication and engagement plans.

This role is ideal for those looking to foster their career in communications and is an excellent opportunity to develop core and specialist communications skills and expertise such as digital media, which are highly transferable.

You will be part of a network of Communication and Engagement Managers from across the agency. You will grow relationships and share your successes, challenges and ideas as well as gaining an excellent perspective on the departmental and cross government picture.
 

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

• To develop and maintain a directorate communication plan, with a two-way feed to and from the Agency plan, identifying key messages, channel fit and audience for all directorate communications through effective networks.

• Capture and ensure feedback from communications is understood, evaluated and used to identify and drive improvements both at local and corporate level.

• Work with the DVLA corporate Communication team to maximise the effectiveness of appropriate communications channels across the directorate e.g. plasma screens, notice boards, intranet whilst adhering to Agency standard.

• Ensure that messages are consistent and delivered to the appropriate standard.

About You
You are a pro-active individual who has excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences, improving both impact and understanding.

You will have the confidence to interact and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders and be a strategic thinker, able to offer creative ideas and give direction.

You will bring experience of working on a wide range of communication projects, using insight and evaluation to inform your approach. You should be familiar with a range of online tools to maximise communication channels, including Microsoft Office and may have video production and editing experience.

You can manage multiple tasks, working flexibly and autonomously to meet changing and competing priorities. You can work well on your own initiative and as part of a wider team.
