Job Description
Primary role purpose:
A strong leader to mentor and manage the G2 engineering function that will include, Pre-sales, Solutions Architects, Field Service and Technical Service Desk Engineering teams. Assist the Sales, Commercial and Engineering Strategic Projects on gathering requirements and developing solutions to meet corporate and customer needs. Ensure all engineering deliverable are provided on time, on budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
- Translates corporate vision into strategic plans and oversees their execution
- Formulate the short, medium to long-term strategy and objectives for engineering
- Establishes and maintains engineering policies and operating procedures for a highly effective global team
- Monitor and evaluate engineering efficiency and effectiveness
- Forecast and prioritise the workload ensuring this is communicated to the wider team
- Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities
- Provides direction and orients employees toward roles and responsibilities
- Develops norms and a collaborative environment
- Implement innovation and change effectively
- Determines staffing requirements and work schedules based on goals and priorities.
- Review the ROI activities of the team to ensure the team is being utilised effectively
- Liaise with and generate good lines of communication with Inmarsat COO and CMP teams (Operations and Products)
Pre Contract Award Engineering:
- Manage the engineering team and ensure the appropriate level of support is provided to the Sales team for requirements gathering to ensure opportunities are closed as soon as possible
- Provide support to bids and tenders that require an engineering input
- Design solutions to meet customer needs that can be delivered operationally
- Work with SMEs on solutions, where appropriate writing of SOWs for support activities
- Ensure the engineers have the right access to the appropriate toolsets, equipment and training to perform presales activities
Post Contract Award Engineering:
- Ensure that plans, procedures and policies are in place allowing the Post Sales Engineering team to meet its requirements in delivery of contracted support services, meeting or exceeding contracted SLAs
- Ensure the engineers have the right access to the appropriate toolsets, equipment and training to perform post sales activities
Technical Service Desk:
- Ensure that plans, procedures and policies are in place allowing for an efficient operation of the technical service desk
- Develop the engineers to fault find and support customer technical requirements, only escalating to the on-call team for difficult to solve issues
Continuous Improvement:
- Eliminates waste and promotes Lean environment.
- Seeks, develops, and promotes a continuous improvement philosophy
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Dynamic individual that can provide technical expertise in areas of satellite network design
- Broad understanding of routing/switching technologies, terrestrial networks, IT solutions for various monitoring and reporting functions and cyber/IA requirements
- Support, communicate and reinforce the vision, mission, values and culture of the organisation
- Demonstrable System Engineering experience
- Proven leadership of a global team
- Ability to prioritise with good time management
- Good verbal and written presentation skills
- Inquisitive and willingness to challenge the status quo
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- An understanding of International Government ways for working
- Lateral thinking
- Experience of Jira, Confluence or ServiceNow
