Our Submarines Business

 

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

 

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

 

Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

 

UK Procurement Leader - Supplier Development

Would you like to join the Maritime Submarines Supply Chain team? We currently have a vacancy for a UK based Procurement Leader - Supplier Development.

As a Procurement Leader, you will be responsible for the development of strategic, critical and leverage suppliers across Maritime Submarines, identifying and delivering improvements to mitigate risks to Quality, Cost and Delivery and maximising the probability of programme success, continuity and longevity of supply.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to work 'in the field' to influence & support the external supply chain. Career development is supported and encouraged.

Your main responsibilities as a Procurement Leader- Supplier Development will involve:

  • Providing technical support to key suppliers, including the requirement for complex problem solving to ensure the optimum solutions are generated
  • Leading supplier development relationships, managing and meeting the expectations of Suppliers, Internal and 3rd Party stakeholders
  • Supporting supplier review meetings, associated governance board reviews and other aspects of the wider Supplier Management agenda as required
  • Embedding Supplier Performance Management Capability within the functions through standardisation of best practice and deployment of Improvement Programs
  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues as a subject matter expert in Supplier Performance Management, Supplier Development, Quality Assurance and Lean / Continuous Improvement across the Supply Chain
  • Supporting the supply chain teams in key strategic supplier assessments aimed at confirming supplier capability or identifying and producing gap evaluations and associated recommendations to address capability shortfalls.
  • Monitoring supplier improvement progress using Continuous Improvement Plans and supplier performance measures in line with improvement plans, values and capture benefits.
  • Developing and delivering training to ensure Suppliers and internal functions are capable and comfortable to undertake ongoing Improvement activity (Lean, Practical Problem Solving, Project Management)
  • Conducting evaluations and provide/deliver executive summaries, reports and presentations when required using Supplier Development trackers, templates and other formats as necessary.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Strategic Leadership experience within a Supply Chain Environment
  • Experience across Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain and Quality
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an understanding of Lean principles and techniques such as DMAIC and process mapping
  • Experience of driving continuous improvement throughout a multiple tier supply chain
  • Knowledge and experience of developing tactical and strategic cost-effective manufacturing engineering solutions, from specification development, through to commercial negotiations, procurement, installation, commissioning and final acceptance
  • Internal and external auditing skills; quality planning; product and process failure investigations; non-conformance and corrective action
  • An understanding of MRP and ERP systems including master scheduling and demand planning.
  • Ability to assess supplier capability from a manufacturing, inspection and operational standpoint to ensure sourcing strategies are made holistically
