Job Details

Are you a senior infrastructure lawyer who enjoys working on complex transactions and looking to broaden your experience as part of a collaborative in-house team? This could be the role for you.

An excellent opportunity to gain exposure in a challenging role within Macquarie Capital, which comprises our corporate advisory, capital markets, cash equities and principal transactions business.

You will join our EMEA legal team, based in London, which sits with and works alongside deal teams in the Macquarie Capital business group. You will have day-to-day interaction with the Macquarie Capital deal teams based in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Madrid, and Johannesburg. Key aspects of your role will require you to provide legal advice (including reviewing and negotiating transaction documents), including:

  •
  • mergers & acquisitions, financing and disposals by Macquarie Capital as principal investor
  • consortium and joint venture arrangements
  • project and acquisition financing
  • public private partnerships
  • development and construction stage infrastructure investments
  • corporate advisory
  • debt capital markets
  • cash equities (research and transition management).

Macquarie Capital’s Investment and Energy Capital business invests Macquarie’s own capital in smart, sustainable infrastructure projects and companies. This includes investing in and creating digital, transport, energy and social infrastructure and providing flexible, partnership capital to infrastructure companies. You will also be involved with co-ordinating and managing the provision of external legal advice to Macquarie Capital across its principal investment, debt capital markets and cash equities businesses, assisting in business compliance with relevant internal policies and external regulations, and assisting in dispute resolution matters.

You are an experienced lawyer with 4-8 years’ post qualification experience in your relevant jurisdiction and have strong experience in either mergers & acquisitions or projects (candidates with strong infrastructure M&A experience and/or project finance experience preferred), gained through working in a law firm or in-house. Experience working within the infrastructure sector would be beneficial, and you will have initiative, self-direction and a strong sense of personal motivation to complete projects and provide advice in a timely manner.

You will enjoy assuming responsibility and demonstrate the confidence to work in a team environment as well as independently on transactions alongside the deal team and negotiate, draft and review complex transaction documents, manage competing priorities, and provide advice to the business. You will also have strong technical legal skills with attention to detail and ability to deliver a high standard of work under tight time constraints, and possess good commercial acumen.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels will be essential to your success.  You will be able to provide clear, impartial and robust legal advice assisting Macquarie Capital to comply with the law, and protect its people, financial integrity and reputation.

Working at Macquarie

We believe in providing a positive environment for all our staff that is innovative and inspiring. For our female staff, Macquarie’s senior leaders are actively involved in increasing the representation of females in management positions.  In June 2014, we launched a mentoring programme for females, with the following two objectives:

  • Address female retention rates at Senior Manager level and improve our diverse pipeline of talent;
  • Engage female Senior Managers by providing tools and support around their personal development;

The programme pairs up Senior Managers with Directors, who meet on a monthly basis, and are supported by active group sessions (bi-monthly) with an external facilitator.

We select some of the brightest minds to help us in solving complex challenges for our clients.  We recognise that recruiting talent from varied backgrounds is essential to improving our understanding of the marketplace, and enhancing creativity and problem-solving capabilities in our businesses.

Because of this, our commitment to you is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or cultural background.

We make this commitment not only because it is the right thing to do but it opens up a world of opportunity, securing the future of our people, our success and our business
