Radar Systems Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the development and delivery of radar systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Radar Systems Engineer at our site in Cowes (Isle of Wight), Chelmsford, or Portsmouth (with travel to Cowes).

As a Radar Systems Engineer, you will be working within our Radar team, which is part of our wider Product & Training Services (P&TS) division. You will be primarily responsible for managing customer requirements, capturing system requirements and defining integration tests, along with tracing test coverage, monitoring test completeness and orchestrating the collation of test results at a system level. You will be responsible for the generation of customer acceptance packs across a diverse range of disciplines, including safety, security (incl. cyber), environmental and self-test.

This role will provide you with the chance to work with the latest engineering technology on projects of national importance. There will also be plenty of opportunity to develop into a Senior Engineer or System Design Authority position in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Radar Systems Engineer will involve:

  • Applying the systems engineering principles of ISO 15288 to support the design of systems through the entire engineering
  • Working across a range of products and services, resolving common engineering problems
  • Discerning and decompose requirements to system and sub-system level and managing these in an approved toolset such as IBM DOORS
  • Undertaking system design and modelling to subsystem level including associated external and internal interfaces and managing such models in an approved toolset such as Cameo
  • Helping to define and articulate acceptance strategies in order to verify requirement compliance at each appropriate level of system design
  • Assisting with system integration, test planning and execution
  • Assisting with technical reviews, verification and approval of engineering technical documentation and design in accordance with business, legislative and customer requirements
  • Providing technical guidance to the immediate team
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of systems engineering practices including model- based engineering, digital threads, cyber security and safety procedures

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Qualification within a relevant STEM discipline
  • Understanding of engineering principles and approaches underpinning design and development activities and be capable of systems thinking, applying holistic approaches to complex problems
  • Demonstrates understanding, knowledge and experience in engineering
  • Some familiarity with software languages

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Concept of requirements and configuration management
  • Experience of working with large scale complex system designs
  • Experience of some aspects of an engineering lifecycle and awareness of lifecycle models and associated tools
  • Awareness of a high-level design methodology
  • Knowledge of algorithmic development, analysis and implementation

You must be able to take accountability for the quality of your work and possess a proactive attitude to problem-solving. You must also have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information to others at various levels of seniority.

Salary: up to £40,000
