Who are Lloyds Banking Group?

Lloyds Banking Group is the UK's leading digital franchise, with over 13 million active online customers across our three main brands - including Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland - as well as the biggest mobile bank in the country. We're building the bank of the future, and we need your help.

Where does the role sit ?

We've created "LBG Labs" and we're building multi-functional, co-located teams giving them freedom to bring technology to the forefront of our business.

A Lab is a co-located team who work together to deliver value at pace by designing services that people find useful, easy, and engaging to use. Typically, a Lab has a strong focus on sophisticated problem solving in an agile way where engineers are free to experiment and build innovative products which will transform the way our customers engage with us.

Our Insurance & Wealth Labs are improving support to our customers throughout their financial lives, with clear, straightforward customer journeys, helping empower them to make the right decisions on their long-term Saving, Investment, insurance and home protection.

What will I focus on as a Lead Engineer?

As an Engineering Lead within the General Insurance (GI) Lab, you'll be responsible for leading and motivating a multi-disciplinary team of Software Engineers, taking accountability for all delivery and operational activities. You'll be passionate about technology, both current and future trends, and will look for opportunities to bring these into the Lab, whilst being a role model for your team and colleagues around you.

Here's how you'll make a difference…

As part of the GI Lab leadership team, you'll:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction for engineering delivery within our teams
  • Lead a culture of continual improvement
  • Driving an 'automation first' approach across the teams
  • Act as a mentor, coach and role model to GI Lab colleagues, implementing a learning culture and a focus on personal and team development.
  • Work collaboratively with other colleagues and teams to achieve shared success
  • Lead transformational initiatives across the Lab or broader programme

What we need from you

  • Proven experience in Senior Engineering delivery roles
  • Experience in JavaScript, NodeJS, Jenkins & Github
  • Experience in C#\.Net would also be an advantage (support and training in this can be provided)
  • Expertise in delivering and supporting high-availability, high-performance systems
  • Have evolving knowledge of, and interest in engineering principles, practices and technologies.
  • Have effective collaboration and communication skills, able to work and influence across functional boundaries.
  • A passion for coaching, developing & motivating colleagues.

What do I get in return?

Our customers are centric to everything we do in the GI Lab, the systems we create and support are vital to our customers ever changing needs and you will have the chance to see the positive effect we make to our customers lives.

On top of our team ethos we're genuine about both equal opportunity and our colleagues representing the communities we serve - developing and advancing the best in our people through personal development, training, qualifications and upskilling on the job. You will be part of an inclusive, values-led culture.

The sheer scale and size of Lloyds brings great career development opportunities and we are set to continue to grow our Engineering functions across the group for many years to come.

Together we'll make it possible…

Company

We’re creating an organisation that attracts, retains and develops the best talent in the industry, and one that openly embraces diversity too. But more than that – we want to be a great place to work. We invest in our people, offering the best training and coaching, and by encouraging them to contribute to our leading corporate and social responsibility practices. We offer flexible working hours and days, under our Work Options scheme. This means that you can have a challenging and rewarding career, and still have an ideal work/life balance.

Flexible working is at the heart of our strategy. We’re re-imagining where, when, and how our people work, with new approaches designed to meet the ever-changing needs of customers and colleagues. These include increasing our use of remote-working tools and technology, as well as placing less reliance on a 9-to-5 mindset. For many of our office-based colleagues, we work in hybrid ways which involves spending at least two days per week or 40% of their time at one of our office sites.
