Job description

The MCA has an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate of Information & Technology as a Senior Business Analyst who will lead large and complex projects, own stakeholder relationships and use their superb business analysis insight to understand and analyse user and business needs resulting in successful outcomes that are aligned with service vision and business strategy objectives.

Working to the Lead Service Designer, the Senior Business Analyst will have line management responsibility for a User Researcher and will work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholder, such as the Head of Coastguards and Heads of Business Units, in order to gather and evaluate requirements to improve services and solutions to make a real difference to the future of MCA.

The role provides fantastic exposure across the whole of the business and allows the role holder to take a holistic approach in building collaborative relationships with stakeholders across all areas of MCA to drive continuous improvement.

This role will be based in Southampton HQ. There will be a business requirement for post holder to be based in the office for a set number of days per week. At present we are operating a hybrid working approach due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation. Details of this arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.

Occasional travel and overnight stays will be required. This will allow the opportunity for the role holder to visit other MCA locations and get to know key stakeholders and the business in more depth.
 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Analysing current services and processes, and identifying and implementing opportunities to optimise these. Helping to evaluate and establish requirements using relevant techniques such as gap analysis.

- Influencing stakeholders and managing relationships effectively. Building long-term strategic relationships and communicating clearly and regularly with stakeholders.

- Supporting setting of business priorities for change initiatives of medium complexity. Eliciting requirements and taking responsibility for investigation and implementation of changes to programme scope.

About You


This role requires an individual with proven ability to analyse business processes, identify alternative solutions, assess feasibility, and recommend new approaches, typically seeking to exploit technology components.

You will be able to confidently manage stakeholders and change initiatives, and be assertive and able to provide constructive challenge to senior management across the business.

You must be a bold communicator and have strong influencing skills, encouraging stakeholders to make the right decisions in line with the business/department strategy whilst being comfortable in pushing back and providing direction.

You will hold the capability to lead and drive continuous improvement, whilst often juggling a number of competing priorities.
