What you'll do:

  • With a clear understanding of roadmaps and longer-term strategic business goals - provide technical direction and leadership towards the delivery of excellent quality and sustainable software - minimising technical debt.
  • Demonstrate expert proficiency within Sky's technology stack to be able to guide and support with the delivery of software for high capacity, high traffic, high availability websites / systems.
  • Play a key role towards the identification and adoption of new technologies and approaches, working towards improving the wider technical estate, associated processes and overall development experience.
  • Facilitate and support with the technical analysis, solution design and integration-based phases of delivery.
  • Play a proactive role with regards to the setup and ongoing maintenance of effective monitoring and alerting solutions across the Digital Service estate.
  • Provide clear direction and leadership with regards to the handling of production issues and live incidents.
  • Support with the recruitment process - identifying skills gaps and playing an active role towards the recruitment of excellent candidates into technical roles.

What you'll bring:

  • Expert level full stack development skills and understanding of the JavaScript stack with a passion for improving and driving quality, performance, resilience and accessibility.
  • Great communications skills with the ability to actively engage and build strong relationships with Commercial colleagues, Scrum Masters, Project Managers, Principal Engineers and other Tech Leads - supporting with the planning and estimation phases of roadmap items; providing technical guidance where required.
  • Strong leadership skills and ethics with the ability to mentor senior level engineers and effectively delegate and empower others with regards to technical delivery.
  • Be a forward-thinker through evaluating new technologies, producing ADR's, contribution to guilds, technical scrum of scrums and chapter meetings along with advocating the creation of technical documentation to encourage and promote knowledge sharing.
