Description of Opportunity

Software engineering is core to Microsoft. As a Software Engineer you will be part of the teams fixing bugs on live products, building upgrades to keep up with market trends, and developing new products to keep Microsoft at the forefront of global technology.

As a global organisation, Microsoft have many different customer types to provide their many services to – they call these 'Business areas'. In your role you will be located within the A40 (Azure for Operators) business area that supports various telecommunications businesses with digital transformation, optimisation and automation.


You will work as part of a team to...

 

  • Seek out bugs in the products. Locating, diagnosing, and fixing them to ensure fully working products
  • Create or enhance internal tools to make common tasks more efficient
  • Design and implement new features in existing products
  • Put yourself in the shoes of the user. Understanding how any why they use your product to make it the most effective it can be
  • Assist Senior Developers on complex projects
  • Develop prototypes to protect the chances of successful product builds
  • Over time develop your skills to lead on the development of Microsoft products
  • Learn how to write code in relevant languages to fix and build products

    You will study for a Level 4 Software Developer qualification over this 24 month apprenticeship. You will spend 80% of your time learning on the job, and 20% working towards your apprenticeship. If you are successful on this programme, you may have the opportunity to go on with Microsoft to study at a higher level within your team, for example a Degree Apprenticeship.

Microsoft operate in a Hybrid Working environment. In simple terms, this means your working life can be split between home and your contracted place of work. As an apprentice you and your manager are empowered to find the flexible balance that works for you. Trips to your contracted place of work will be required from time to time.
