Assistant Financial Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hardworking, dependable and motivated individual to join our finance team as an Assistant Financial Accountant.

As an Assistant Financial Accountant you will be primarily responsible for the accurate and timely input and reporting of accounting entries.

As part of Shared Services, the Financial Accounting team provide a number of finance activities to business units across BAE Systems. The activities undertaken within the team include Financial Reporting, Fixed Asset Accounting, Leasing Accounting, Payroll Accounting, and General Accounting (accruals, prepayments and provisions) which are supported using various technologies including robotics.

The Financial Accounting team is part of a large Finance function within BAE Systems with many opportunities for progression and exposure to a wide variety of finance activities in support of self and career development.

To help support a positive work life balance, the team operate in a hybrid working environment, allowing a mixture of both home and office based working the suits the needs of both the individual and the business.

Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Financial Account will involve:

  • Supporting data input on various accounting systems and the monthly financial close process
  • Preparation of monthly journals including the calculation of accruals and prepayments
  • Preparing Balance Sheet Reconciliations and resolving any reconciling items arising from your own and colleagues' reconciliations
  • Administering Fixed asset transactions including capitalisation, disposals and depreciation
  • Processing payroll files into the accounting systems and manage employee benefit schemes
  • Posting leasing entries into the accounting system and reconciliation of the control accounts
  • Monthly and yearly reporting in line with company deadlines
  • Preparation of UK and foreign VAT returns

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Finance degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Have an understanding of Financial Controls and Data Protection regulations
  • Intermediate level Excel skills
  • Strong organisational skills and a clear communicator
  • Vigilant approach to problem solving
  • Good working knowledge of SAP, Oracle and Hyperion would be desirable

What we are looking for in you:

An individual with a desire to study towards a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA or equivalent) with excellent communication skills who is logical, proactive and meticulous with attention to detail. This individual should also be self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to prioritise multiple activities and work as part of a busy team environment with experience of delivering to strict deadlines. The desire and ability to learn and develop new skills whilst embracing change with a 'can do' attitude is essential. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate a level of professionalism when interacting with managers and other finance staff.

£24,786 + Dependant upon Experience
