Chief Data and Analytics Office brings together Engineering, Data Science, Business Intelligence (BI) and Agile Delivery; building data solutions in areas such as customer segmentation, pricing, customer experience, credit decisioning, commercial performance and fraud detection. They are also driving a more sophisticated approach, including leveraging Cloud, to enable more data-led decisions and help LBG achieve its ambition to be a truly data driven bank.

With skills spanning across programming/data analysis/modelling and a mix of modern and traditional data platforms (e.g. Hadoop, Kafka, GCP, Azure, Teradata, SQL server) you'll get to work on a vast range of high-profile projects providing you with horizon-expanding exposure to a host of wider technologies and careers in data.

So what is the focus of the role?

You'll be working in a cross-functional team, collaborating closely with the business, product owners, data scientists and machine learning engineers to solve some of the Bank's toughest business problems.

Your key accountabilities will include;

  • Providing the much-needed 'data expertise' to help shape the approach to solving the problem and contributing new/interesting datasets into the mix.

  • Working in our new Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Hadoop or Spark environments; using state of the art toolsets, as well as evaluating exciting new technologies to expand our capabilities

  • Responsible for the end to end delivery of initiatives and improving the value delivered by the team.

You'll need to show a real passion for developing new solutions and translating data into analytics based opportunities - role-modelling Data Engineering as it should be in the new digital age. Someone who can quickly absorb complex technical and analytical concepts and be able to translate these to a wider business audience is essential for this opportunity.

Could you bring the skills and value we need?

We'd be looking for you to have experience in some of the following areas:

  • Good coding/scripting experience (e.g. Python, SQL etc) developed in a commercial/industry setting

  • Computer science fundamentals: a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, design patterns and core programming concepts

  • Exposure to Hadoop technologies (e.g. HDFS, Hive, HBase) or prior experience working with high volume, low latency data storage and analytics platforms

  • The agile delivery mind set of a product owner, coupled with a well-practiced technical and architectural understanding of data

We would love to see any additional skills with the points below, but please apply if you have the core skills but not these ones!

  • Experience delivering analytical use cases in a cloud based environment

  • Exposure to some GCP cloud tooling (e.g. Cloud DataFlow, BigQuery)

***This role can be based out of our Bristol, Halifax or London hubs - we're mainly looking for the above skillsets. The broad base salary banding across the UK is from £48,500pa to £80,000pa. Salaries in the London area will be reflected towards the upper end of this bracket***
