Our Analytical Research and Development Department, at Pfizer R&D in Sandwich, UK plays a critical role in transforming patients' lives around the world. As part of Worldwide R&D in Pharmaceutical Sciences, we are responsible for the research, development, and manufacture of medicines for studies at all phases of clinical development. Our scientists' partner with manufacturing specialists for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) synthesis in laboratory and pilot plant facilities. We also provide support for technology transfer to Pfizer manufacturing sites and third-party facilities worldwide.
We are seeking someone with a passion for Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and Data Science to join our Analytical Research and Development team (ARD) in Sandwich. As part of diverse, multi-disciplinary teams you'll support projects teams within our development portfolio as they seek to implement advanced analytical measurement science to enhance speed, quality and flexibility in API development and manufacturing.
The successful applicant will have a matrix leadership role of a small team of scientists to both support the portfolio and develop new solutions and approaches in the field of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Chemometrics, Integrated Analytics and Data Science, working globally across Analytical Research and Development.
You will use your knowledge of PAT and Chemometrics to enable teams to design and perform laboratory experiments related to developing PAT methods and online analysis within the development operations. Methods may need to be suitable to transfer to manufacturing environments. You will use your knowledge of Data Science to enable integrated analytical measurement solutions within the development operations.
You will advocate new technologies and process improvements, engaging with internal and external experts to drive continuous innovation of our capabilities. You'll influence the external environment through professional presentations, posters and seminars. You will stay abreast of the latest relevant literature, and provide technical mentoring and training to colleagues within Analytical R&D.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the theory and application of PAT, including vibrational spectroscopy (NIR, IR, Raman, UV) with experience in applied chemometrics approaches and principles. To be accustomed with data science: instrument and software integration, performing data acquisition, visualisation, and deploying analytical models and real-time-analytics. Experience using Python, R, MATLAB, Process Pulse, Unscrambler, LabVIEW or equivalent is preferred.
Additional skills and experience could include: an understanding of the differences between Pharmaceutical R&D and commercial manufacturing environments and experience with PAT method development, validation and implementation; to have engineering experience, continuous manufacturing, or process control experience in the Pharmaceutical, fine chemical or related industry.
BSc, MSc or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences with experience in a relevant industry.
