Role overview

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our HR, Finance and Research Administration Product Line. In this role you will help deliver and continuously improve a portfolio of digital products that support our Finance and Research Administration teams. Working as part of a team to build and develop the products you will be key in helping us meet Imperial College’s needs both today and in the future.

As a member of a product squad you will benefit from working in an empowered self-organising team with autonomy to manage the product lifecycle for the product portfolio. As part of the team you will contribute to delivering features that realise business value. Coupled with completing product discovery to find opportunities for improvements to user experience and business processes.

With your experience of working in or with a Finance function, including delivering Finance systems, you will share your knowledge with your product squad and teams across Imperial College to address business opportunities and help tackle problems. Providing mentorship and support to your team as you deliver features that unlock value across the product portfolio.                       

Key Responsibilities

Collaborating with teams across Imperial College and with your product squad you will build an understanding of user needs for the product portfolio. This will enable you to find opportunities to simplify and improve the business processes the product portfolio underpins.  

An active member of the product squad you will participate in team ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand ups and sprint retrospectives. Supporting the refinement of the product backlog and working as part of the team to provide clarity on user stories and the required acceptance criteria to ensure we deliver business value.

Working with the Product Line Owner you will contribute to Product roadmaps through data and insights you have gathered from analysis of product performance and user feedback. Coupled with this your work on product discovery will enable us to understand our user communities and help prioritise features for delivery. Providing you with the opportunity to steer the Product Line strategy and be part of the decision making process.

Essential Experience

  • Experience working as a Business Analyst or a Product Owner for a large organisation. Knowledge and experience of working with or in a Finance function.  Experience of leading and driving business initiatives across an organisation using agile/iterative development methodologies. Team player, able to work collaboratively across multiple teams to achieve a common organisational goal. Knowledge of general IT technologies, architectures and delivery models   Knowledge of current product development practices and methodologies, such as DevOps, Scrum, Kanban Data analysis skills and experience to provide insight to support decision making across a product portfolio.   Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead others and communicate complex technical information effectively to a range of stakeholders with varying degrees of technical knowledge  Able to make and guide effective decisions on risk, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached. Capable of making decisions proportionate to the level of technical complexity and risk   A good communicator, able to deliver clear, straightforward communication through a variety of mediums e.g. formal written reports, workshops, online or face-to-face   Self-motivated, proactive and able to work on own initiative  

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of working in a Business Analyst or Product Owner role in the Higher Education sector.   Knowledge of a broad range of current and evolving IT technologies for the Finance function. An understanding of a service design approach to product development. With experience in working with service blueprints and user journey mapping to align the service with product delivery.
