Our Cloud Engineering team is looking for an experienced and passionate Azure Lead Cloud Engineer with strong hands-on development experience. As a Cloud Engineer you'll be an active and leading member of a cloud-focused team of engineers - working on one of the Group's flagship projects to deliver a strategic platform for Azure Cloud that will enable the business to realise the next generation of services that form the Bank's vision for 2022 and beyond!

The role will have end-to-end accountabilities including:

  • Shaping Azure and Cloud-technology roadmaps
  • Finding opportunities & use-cases for new features and cloud-based products
  • Collaboratively working with the business and other engineering teams to design then build and release enterprise-class solutions that progress the Bank's roadmap
  • Ensuring released services are resilient and optimised for cost, scalability and operational efficiency

The role will require you to be 'hands-on' and able to lead from the front - setting an example of behaviours and practices for team members to learn from and adopt in their own careers and development. You'll be an advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting their teams in resolution of impediments and issues as well as continually developing themselves with industry best practice and tooling used across their engineering team. This role will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within the Cloud topics.

What you'd get involved with:

  • Driving identification of opportunities for and delivery of enterprise-class automated solutions
  • Contributing to Azure and Cloud Technology Roadmaps
  • Leading the design and delivery of cloud platforms and automation systems
  • Identifying shortcomings and opportunities, including use cases for new features and cloud products, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices
  • Analysing and evaluating the feasibility and relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then developing and amending as necessary
  • Developing and delivering elements of a strategic planning system with guidance from senior colleagues.

What's needed to be considered for this role?

Essential:

  • Leadership and a blend of both deep domain and technical expertise within a team
  • Demonstration of great passion for coaching and developing people in a "player-coach" model.
  • Recent experience creating architectural designs for cloud services
  • Recent practical experience working with a broad set of Azure services and using Azure CLI/SDK to deliver automation
  • Experience with the following:
    • Delivering platforms based on the principles of Infrastructure as Code
    • Azure Blueprints, ARM, Azure Policy and knowledge of template specification
    • Creating and building Azure DevOps pipelines & repos
    • Source code management using Git within an engineering team
    • Automation of processes & runbooks
    • Recent experience using Kubernetes and Istio
  • Understanding and ability toto write, parse, process: JSON and YAML and write scripts in BASH, Python, PowerShell
  • A solid understanding of Cloud Security
  • MS Azure DevOps Engineer and/or MS Certified Azure Solutions Architect certification

Desirable:

  • Experience building/running cloud services in a regulated, enterprise environment
  • Other Infrastructure as Code experience (i.e. Terraform, Jenkins)
  • Other scripting/application languages (i.e. .NET, Java, Node.js)
  • Other Cloud certifications (Azure, GCP, AWS)

About you:

  • Recent experience designing and delivering public cloud platforms and services, automated API-driven systems with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and agile delivery models
  • Able to follow and iteratively improve domain-owned services Azure and other cloud-based products mature and develop new features where other emerging technologies present an opportunity
  • Ability to work with architectural, business, SRE and other engineering leads to shape, design and engineer solutions
  • Ability to work with a team of engineers to deliver domain-owned deliverables and dependencies
  • Continuous curiosity to learn and develop with industry best practice methods and tooling in the cloud function
  • Technology agnostic and are willing to adapt your approach in pursuit of the best solution
  • Ability to solve problems, perform troubleshooting and resolve issues
