Role Summary

A laboratory-based position supporting the key laboratory functions in the High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) Group of the Chemical Research & Development department (CRD).The HTE team uses state of the art technologies to generate core data fundamental for optimal design and development of safe, robust, scalable and efficient chemical processes for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API's). The position involves maintenance of systems and laboratory equipment enhancing the efficiency of the HTE facility in addition to utilization of the technology to conduct experiments to generate the key fundamental data.



Role Responsibilities:

  • Practical application of automated technologies to support chemical process and route design:

    • The role is primarily laboratory based.
    • Efficient execution using the latest technologies and software.
    • Execution and data interpretation of High Throughput Experiments specifically solubility, liquid / liquid extraction and salt screens.
    • Maintain high safety standards at all times.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and evolve the most contemporary and effective technologies and software (Unchained Labs Big Kahuna, Junior, Quantos Chronect, Agilent UPLC-MS, iChemexplorer etc).
  • Actively maintain inventory levels of laboratory supplies and chemicals to ensure continuous process workflows.
  • Proactive collaboration with other scientists to assess and develop new automated technologies and workflows.
  • Maintain a high-quality lab notebook to good laboratory practice standards.
  • Convey work clearly and concisely to internal stakeholders through written and verbal communications.

Qualifications

A minimum of A-Level Chemistry/BTEC Triple Science (HNC/HND in Chemistry or related Life Sciences). Strong IT skills will be required.

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of chemistry consistent with qualification level.
  • Experience with automated technologies/programming.
  • Strong learning aptitude; desire and ability to learn aspects of process chemistry, new techniques and embrace a continuous improvement philosophy to drive enhanced working approaches.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking and able to set personal goals which are both realistic and focused.
  • Enthusiastic attitude and approach to teamwork. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within high performing teams as well as individually.
  • Rational and creative approach to problem solving. Ability to apply learning to new situations as well as trying new and untested approaches to solve problems.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Communicates verbally and in written form with clarity and purpose.

Integral member of the High Throughput Experimentation Group, collaboration with the wider CRD lab group.
