Chief Operations Office 

Inmarsat’s Chief Operations Office (COO) plays a vital role managing the services that keep our business running and delivering to our customers. COO consists of 9 functions including: Satellite Operations, Network Operations, Service Assurance, Service Delivery Aviation and Customer Assurance, Service Delivery and Supply Chain, Project Management Office, Global Cyber Security and Group IT

Job Description

Primary role purpose:

  • Own the planning and execution of assigned projects including requirements such as scope, delivery plan and timelines, risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Work with business system analysts and solution designers to develop project definitions and high-level solution designs to feed into project approval and realization.
  • Develop and lead Project governance and reporting for assigned projects.
  • Project management using a mix of internal staff and 3rd party suppliers to successfully deliver projects in a matrix management environment.
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop detailed work package definitions, estimates and high-level schedules
  • Engage all stakeholder groups to create project teams responsible for the development, testing and operational handover of business support systems.
  • Create and maintain detailed level project plans.
  • Lead team members and ensure they understand their roles, responsibilities and deliverables within the overall plan.
  • Drive collaboration and teamwork to execute the plan and monitor progress against the plan.
  • Carry out effective and proactive risk, issue & change management.
  • Organize and chair steering groups of senior management stakeholders to provide status reporting and assist with risk, issue & change management.
  • Provide accurate and timely status reporting to COO Portfolio management.
  • Work as part of a wider team of project managers to collaboratively develop and continuously improve standard project governance process and procedures along with ongoing compliance.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma with an IT related field from a recognized post-secondary institution. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience of working in a similar role and environment.
  • Project Management Professional with knowledge and certification of project methods (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, MSP, Six Sigma) and Agile and/or Lean delivery methodologies (e.g., PMI-ACP, Scrum).
  • Strong project delivery skills including accurate project planning, delivering to milestone dates, managing resources effectively, and communicating status effectively.
  • Experience of setting up and using project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence & Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience working with outsourced and internal delivery units.
  • Strong MS Office skills Incl. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with ability to build relationships with technical, business and senior management stakeholders.
  • A high degree of organisation skill with excellent attention to detail.
  • A high energy level with a dynamic, positive and ‘can do’ style.
  • An ability to work under pressure against short timescales and provide solid results.
  • Strong budget management and financial reporting skills
  • A background in the fixed or mobile telco operator business would be beneficial.
