Job Details

In Future of Work & Business Design we have a compelling opportunity to lead our Business Design work in relation to People matters.

Business Design work involves assessing how we do things, e.g. processes, decision-making, and seeks ways to simplify and improve our approach. We use colleague-centric design to create new processes that deliver on cost, efficiency and that help to create a culture that's aligned to our values.

Future of Work & Business Design leads on People Strategy, Colleague Conduct and the Future of Work amongst other areas. The role sits within a small, energetic team called Colleague Conduct & Business Design.

As a team, we work flexibly. We're spread across the country with a range of working patterns, so we welcome all job applications (job shares included). We'll be hosting an open house call during August where you can come along and find out more information about the role and team.

About the Colleague Conduct & Business Design team, Future of Work & Business Design

We sit in People and Places and our remit covers areas including Business Design activity, Colleague Conduct and Consequence Management for conduct investigations or disciplinary matters.

This role sits within the Business Design part of the team, who deliver Continuous Improvement and process redesign activity.

Whilst the focus of the business design team has been on Conduct matters, there has been a recent broadening of our remit, and we are becoming increasingly involved in wider Business Design activity in People & Places as a whole. This means that the Business Design Manager will report into a Senior Manager in Colleague Conduct & Business Design, but will work flexibly across Future of Work & Business Design, often reprioritising work to support the People & Places agenda and the priorities of the Future of Work & Business Design Director.

We'd love to see a number of the below aspects in your background:

  • Comfortable articulating strategy, both verbally and through succinct and informative papers
  • Ability to solve complex problems via a rigorous and academic approach
  • A good knowledge of Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience managing their time effectively as they work independently on complex, open-ended pieces of work

So what do we want to see in your style?

A brilliant business design manager will be a strategic thinker, who is able to take ambiguous ideas and translate them into tangible concepts using multiple sources. They will be a confident problem-solver, and will be able to use systems thinking to address such problems.

They will be inquisitive and quick to learn about new areas of work, and use excellent attention to detail to follow the fast-paced and innovative thinking that happens in Future of Work & Business Design.

They will be confident in owning pieces of work, and will be able to work effectively with collaborators from across the Group (for example CCOR, Legal, People Partners). They will be a strong communicator, and will be able to write clear, concise papers for senior committees.

This role will involve regular engagement with Director-level colleagues, and as such this role would suit an individual with drive, motivation and ambition who would enjoy working closely with more senior members of the team.

What you would get in return

In return for your drive and hard work, you'll play an instrumental part in this busy and ambitious team, where we nurture a supportive environment in which we aim to thrive together. You'll be in a high-profile role within the business area, and will be part of a team that prioritises an open and non-hierarchical culture, supporting and encouraging team members to be themselves and be their best at work. We care deeply about development and this role provides a great opportunity to develop your understanding of People & Places whilst working directly with some brilliant colleagues.

Sound like something you may be interested in? Come along to our open house call to find out more and ask any questions you may have - if you'd like an invite, please drop Jennifer Atkinson ( ) a message on Teams/Email.

We look forward to receiving your applications.
