Group Auditor (£44,360 - £47,695)

Cambridgeshire County Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Internal Audit & Risk Management team as a Group Auditor. This is advertised as a full-time role (37 hours per week) with flexible working and the opportunity to work from home several days a week, but we would also consider requests for part-time working for the right candidate.

The Team:

This is a great opportunity to continue to develop your leadership career in local government, within a forward-thinking and inventive team, working within an innovative and supportive County Council.  You will take responsibility for reviewing and evaluating a wide range of organisational functions and services including: finance; social care; major infrastructure projects; high-value contracts; and complex partnership and joint working arrangements including the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, shared services with Peterborough City Council, and NHS partners. The service also provides advice and consultancy services across the Council, with the aim of adding value and improving organisational governance, risk management and control. At Cambridgeshire County Council, Internal Audit has a pivotal role in helping the organisation manage risks and is a positive catalyst for change.

The team is based at our newly constructed civic headquarters at New Shire Hall in Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, and operates a flexible working policy. There is the opportunity to work remotely as well as from our central base at New Shire Hall, and some travel is likely to be required to other Cambridgeshire offices and schools.

Group Auditor:

As a Group Auditor, you will undertake a complex portfolio of Internal Audit work. Often reporting directly to the Head of Internal Audit, you will provide assurance over key risks and review multi-million pound contractual arrangements, incorporating open-book assurance where possible, to ensure that these are operating in accordance with the terms of the contracts and value for money is being achieved through contract management activities. The Group Auditor will plan and manage the use of staff resources, develop staff professionally and initiate staff development to ensure team plans and targets are achieved.

Benefits:

The Council offers a variety of benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave allowance with the option to buy additional leave, flexible working and opportunities for learning and development. For this role, the Council offers up to £4k of reimbursement for relocation expenses for a successful candidate moving into the County.

Who are we looking for?

Successful applicants will be team players and great communicators, with the desire to think innovatively and strategically about how to improve the way systems and services work, challenge current processes, and work closely with senior management and key stakeholders across the organisation. Experience auditing contracts (particularly open book contract audit) and/or of risk management would be a particular advantage.

Applicants for the Group Auditor role will be qualified CCAB accountants or Chartered Internal Auditors.

Applications should include a covering letter and curriculum vitae setting out relevant experience.

Closing date for applications is midnight on 18th September 2022. Interviews will be held virtually in the week commencing 26th September 2022.
