Your Purpose
We’re now looking to recruit a Laboratory and Sensory Manager to join our brilliant team based at Burton Brewery.

The role of the Laboratory and Sensory Manager entails overseeing a team of Brewery Quality Assurance Technicians to ensure the delivery of a cost-effective and high-quality service, while adhering to regulatory requirements related to authenticity and food defense. This involves resource allocation, change management, and coaching team members on micro investigations. The Manager also takes charge of equipment maintenance and calibration, documentation, and supply management, with a keen eye on ensuring the Site tasters' high compliance. Furthermore, the Manager collaborates with all departments to promote cross-functional technical compliance.

Key Responsibilities

The Laboratory & Sensory Manager is responsible for optimizing the efficiency of processes and workflows while ensuring safety and compliance with MCBC standards and safety regulations. They lead and motivate a team of laboratory technicians to continuously improve and work effectively. The manager also oversees the training and development of lab and OPQC technicians in test methodologies, including sensory testing, and the proper use of lab equipment.

The role involves negotiating and meeting service level agreements with important customer groups. The individual is responsible for ensuring that all legal sampling requirements are fulfilled and that the minimum sample plan is followed for both the central QA lab and OPQC labs. They should also ensure that the laboratory is adequately staffed to comply with all corporate policies and procedures.

The responsibilities include ensuring the proper functioning of laboratory equipment and instruments by adhering to calibration schedules and developing a maintenance and replacement plan. A validation plan for all tests should also be created. Ensuring timely submission of Proficiency testing and thorough investigation and documentation of any failures. Implementation of run charts for all tests is also required.

The responsibility of maintaining and updating the laboratory document system to comply with relevant International Standards, Legal and Legislative requirements falls on this role. Additionally, the role involves reviewing all laboratory operations to identify areas for continuous improvement.

Facilitate the implementation of the WCSC 2.0 methodology within the Quality Assurance function. Offer assistance to all site departments to promote continuous improvement by utilizing WCSC 2.0 tools and techniques effectively for problem-solving purposes.

About You

A degree in a discipline related to science, food manufacturing, or quality assurance is required.

Higher degree in a scientific, food manufacturing or quality related discipline.Minimum HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety Level 4 certificate. Lead auditor training certificate. 

Experience in a quality and/or food safety laboratory based role.

Developed leadership and communication skills
