A great opportunity has arisen within the Consumer Servicing and Engagement Platform for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).

Our Cloud SRE Team is looking for an expert and passionate Engineer with strong hands-on development experience. As a Cloud SRE you’ll be an active and leading member of a cloud-focused team of engineers - working on one of the Group’s flagship projects to run and maintain a set of products and services on the Google Cloud Platform that will enable the business to realise the next generation of services that form the Bank’s vision for 2024 and beyond!

Here’s where you’ll make a difference:

You have can-do attitude, curiosity about exploring technologies beyond your core skills, willing to learn, highly motivated and with a passion for working with people, working in a strong collaborative way to drive efforts to create, build, support and improve our applications. You also enjoy working closely with the product and other engineering teams with lots of exciting new challenges. You'll be a core contributor to ensure good quality and engineering practices are followed in accordance with engineering transformation strategy.

Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too...

We believe that people don't fit neatly into roles, and we value everyone's individual skills, experience, and knowledge - it's what makes you amazing!

To be considered for this position, you would at a minimum need to demonstrate the below in your application:

Technical Skills

Programming and Automation
  • Ability to quickly understand, update and write code in languages such as Python, Groovy, BASH, PowerShell
  • Hands-on experience in automating/scripting to remove toil, setting up SLI/SLO and optimising code and performance during RTL and Production

Cloud Experience
  • Cloud SRE experience and broad set of relevant product knowledge, ideally within GCP;
  • Be proficient in the following tooling - Dynatrace, Stackdriver/Cloud Operations Suite, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud logging, Cloud Consumption and RTL viewer
  • A strong understanding of Cloud security and networking

DevOps and Containerisation
  • Strong DevOps understanding, including experience of Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, such as Terraform and Jenkins, or alternatives such as Azure DevOps
  • Experience of developing for, or administrating Kubernetes clusters in a production environment

Behavioural Skills

  • Leadership experience including line management, team leadership, mentoring and task management with evidence of educating/mentoring and coaching other engineers

Problem Solving, Collaboration and Optimisation
  • Experience in problem-solving, able to demonstrate logical thinking and excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrable use of source control practice and collaborative working as part of an engineering team
  • Demonstrate a passion to continue to learn and develop your engineering skills.

And any experience of these would be really useful:
  • Recent practical experience using SDKs and APIs to deliver automation.
  • Certifications in GCP or another cloud platform, such as Azure, AWS

We would also consider candidates with less direct experience in cloud engineering, who can demonstrate strong skills in other areas such as sysadmin, software engineering or other technology/engineering disciplines who also are able to quickly adapt and pick up new skills will also be considered.
