Role Profile - Strategic Building Safety Advisor.docx

We are looking for a Strategic Building Safety Advisor to join our specialist team. Working alongside another Strategic Building Safety Advisor and reporting to the Senior Strategic Building Safety Advisor.

You will support our colleagues in delivering exceptional building safety practice, across the organisation, monitoring compliance, delivering building safety training and guidance, auditing the work undertaken by operational teams in the compliant delivery of activities in accordance with the building safety act and secondary legislation.

With many new legislative changes, you’ll be joining the team at an especially busy time and collaboration with other teams will be key to ensure our building safety compliance is maintained.

You will support frontline colleagues and management teams as required. This will include driving excellent building safety practice across all of L&Q’s in-scope activities.

All to ensure our building safety obligations are delivered on and compliance is demonstrable for our 200+ higher risk buildings where we are the principal accountable person.

The Corporate Health & Safety team forms part of the second line of defence; designing and implementing policies, providing guidance and support to enable suitable and sufficient risk management, implementing and carrying out internal audit, monitoring compliance and supporting the business change processes as appropriate.

Having relevant experience in the building safety area, ideally working at a similar level and preferably in the housing sector and within multi-site environments you will possess or be working towards a minimum of level 4 Building Safety qualification (or equivalent) and a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) with membership of a relevant institute.

You will have a solid appreciation and knowledge of the Building Safety Act and its supporting secondary legislation, guidance, as well as general legislation relating to the safety of buildings e.g. the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, the Fire Safety England Regulations, and the Health and Safety at Work etc Act.

You will provide advice and support to operational and delivery colleagues and teams as well as undertaking audits, presenting training, collating data and publishing performance management reports.

The successful candidate will actively keep themselves up to date with the changing legislation, e.g. the Building Safety Act, associated secondary legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards and best practice and be capable of reviewing policies and creating and reviewing standard operating procedures.

The role will include supporting our colleagues in delivering excellent building safety practice across all of L&Q’s business areas, monitoring compliance along with other related duties such as delivering building safety training and monitoring the work undertaken by operational teams and our partner / representatives / consultants in the compliant delivery of building safety tasks and duties.

You will be familiar and competent in Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, and will have used this in delivering the building safety message through reports, guidance, procedures, mentoring and training.

Your approach and attitude will be as important to us as your academic qualifications. You will be a strong team player who is happy to have a hands-on approach in supporting the positive ‘building safety culture’ within L&Q. You will be willing to undertake personal development as necessary.

You will be required to travel to other offices, our residential properties or attend resident and team meetings as determined by the business need. Therefore, it is desirable that you are able to legally drive in the UK and have access to a vehicle on a pre-arranged basis.  You will make a difference, by supporting the organisation in demonstrating that our buildings are safe to live in and that our residents feel safe too.

If this role excites you, and you feel you have the right mixture of skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours, we would be delighted to receive your application.
