SLR’s mission is to make sustainability happen. One of the most sustainable solutions is to produce biomethane from organic substrates. SLR’s Process Engineering team are growing and looking to recruit an experienced engineer and project manager to focus on the on the development and due diligence of biomethane and anaerobic digestion projects.


You will join an established team that continue to excel in the sector and will provide input and assistance on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects including new and innovative technologies. You will work independently and within a team to deliver projects and develop new and existing business. You will act as a project manager, write proposals and manage clients and the interface with clients and contractors. As an experienced member of the team, you will provide and manage workload of others in the team and other disciplines.  You will be expected to mentor and coach other engineers within the team and assist the growth in capability within the team.

SLR has real in-depth knowledge of the biomethane and anaerobic digestion industries, and the challenges our client’s face, delivering real change in an expanding and sustainable industrial sector. We are logical thinkers with the capability to look at problems from various angles and come up with innovative, practical, cost-effective solutions. You will form a key part of the team and help build data and information into knowledge and understanding.

Our Engineering service line has expertise across a range of engineering sectors including civil, geotechnical, transport, chemical, process, materials, and mechanical engineering, with particular expertise in solid waste management/treatment and industrial wastewater and technologies. We work with many other disciplines across SLR and on different projects in terms of their length and complexity. We provide clients with expertise at all stages of a project from concept designs to commissioning and testing and on to performance improvement and optimisation. The Process Engineering team provides clients with expertise at all project stages, including:

  • Overall Project and Programme Management;
  • Project development assistance;
  • Construction and Site Management;
  • Plant Operation, Maintenance and Trouble Shooting;
  • Plant Commissioning and Performance Testing;
  • Technical and Economic Feasibility Studies;
  • Technical Due Diligence Reviews;
  • Front End Engineering and Concept Design Studies;
  • Process Design Review and Optimisation;
  • HAZOP/HAZID Studies;
  • Development and Preparation of Technical Specifications;
  • Preparation of Tender Packages and Tender Evaluation;
  • Technical Training and Instruction; and
  • Technical Advisor, Owner’s Engineer and Independent Certifier Roles.

The role 

The role will be primarily focused on all aspects of the biomethane supply chain but will also include contributing to business development activities and assisting other specialists on waste, wastewater, recycling and circular economy projects both in the UK and overseas.

You will work with others in the process engineering team and other disciplines across the business including the Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water and Environmental Specialist Services Groups on a wide variety of different projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing waste and recycling and circular economy projects across the life of a project, preparing concept designs and completing feasibility studies;
  • Assisting with review of third-party designs, technical proposals and operational models and writing technical due diligence reports for funders;
  • Preparing technical and procurement documentation and schematics/drawings and management of contracts through our role in plant construction projects;
  • Assisting with preparation of models to determine plant energy and mass balances, emission rates and financial/operational models including thermodynamic calculations and basic financial metrics;
  • On-site inspection, witnessing, verification and supervision of construction, commissioning, and testing projects and troubleshooting of operational plant including waste and recycling operations (thermal, mechanical, biological) and other renewable energy and sustainability-based projects;
  • Developing relationships with existing and new clients, attending conferences, developing prospects, writing proposals and wining new projects; and
  • Assisting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering aspects of diverse projects.

About you 

You will have a degree in engineering and experience of managing projects in the waste and recycling or related fields. You will be able to work as part of a team and fit into SLR’s One Team culture. You will have excellent communication skills and be positive and friendly.

You will have knowledge and understanding of biomethane and will have some experience of working on construction projects and facilities as an engineer, consultant, project delivery manager or operator.

Essential

 

  • Degree in Engineering, Biochemistry or similar subject;
  • Experience in anaerobic digestion or related fields;
  • Numerate and experienced with data, basic modelling with excellent report writing skills and IT literate, particularly with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team;
  • Well organised and logical thinker, friendly and outgoing with good communication skills; and
  • Full, current, clean driving licence valid in the UK with ability to travel.


Desirable

  • Masters degree in relevant subject;
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards a professional qualification or membership of a professional body);
  • Experience working on site, health and safety and CDM (Construction Design Management Regulations 2015);
  • Experience of due diligence, operations, contract management and procurement; and
  • Committed to help progress towards achieving sustainability and environmental targets.
