Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
Package: £28,420 - £34,000 per annum ( depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)
Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

AWE is currently recruiting for Applied Scientists to join the Technology Development Group within our Physics sub-function. The roles sit within the Advanced Imaging Team and the Shock Diagnostics Team.
Working as an Applied Scientist within the Technology Development Group, the successful candidate will undertake research and development on diagnostics for hydrodynamics trials. You will be working in the laboratory developing new techniques and diagnostics, undertaking data analysis, keeping up to date with scientific literature and developing new techniques for the analysis of diagnostic data.
This role is very varied and offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work on cutting edge R&D as well as applying this R&D to explosive experiments.
There is the opportunity for occasional travel within the UK and overseas, to attend conferences and participate in experiments.

- A strong degree in Physics or a related subject with a focus on applied science, or relevant experience in the field of optics or photonics.
- Some practical laboratory skills.

- You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.
