At Metro Bank, the first new bank on the high street in over 100 years, we pride ourselves on offering family friendly banking service as well as being a family friendly employer.
Everything about Metro Bank is focused on offering the very best in service and convenience to our customers, including staff, families, parents, children and their dogs!
We’re an equal opportunities employer and we take real pride in having a supportive family friendly culture for colleagues and customers; ranging from shift working and enhanced maternity benefits to Kids Rock events which team members and their families are welcome to attend.
Metro Bank is committed to creating a diverse workforce that represents the communities it serves, and giving opportunities to colleagues looking to build a career with the bank.
We use external recruitment pages and advertise our jobs on Workingmums.co.uk and parent websites to attract people returning to work and part time colleagues.
We train our people on hiring and the benefits of diversity in the work place and have updated and improved our Diversity and Inclusion and Recruitment Policies.
We hold Twitter parties about jobs and careers including some specifically for working parents.
We offer enhanced maternity and paternity support as well as increasing the length of maternity leave we offer with full pay from 10 to 14 weeks. This is great news for new Mums and we’re sure it will make a big difference.
Our charity partnerships continue to reflect our focus on family. Earlier this year we held a series of parenting workshops and 1-2-1 sessions for colleagues in partnership with Place2Be.
These were well attended and we received some great feedback from parents across the business.
All colleagues have access to the Bank Workers Charity (BWC), which can provide you and your family with extra support and specialist resources should you ever need it.
Through the BWC you have access to partners including Working Families, Relate, Refuge and Kidscape among others.
We recently introduced a laptop pool for colleagues, as we know sometimes you may need a day off work to support or look after a child or relative who needs you.
Family comes first so we will always give you a day to work out any arrangements.
If however, you have an urgent piece of work that you want to deliver on the day and you don’t have a company laptop, we will courier a laptop to you at home to enable you to work remotely during that day.

Mei – Yun, Property Manager at Metro Bank and mum of two:
My background is architecture and it became very apparent to me that to step back into this industry, not only as a contractor but as a mum of two, wasn’t very forgiving.
I needed a career change that would accommodate my two children, as my husband is also an architect. I was lucky enough to meet with Metro Bank’s Chief People Officer who gave me a job as her PA in June 2012.
I work in a business where people’s talents are greatly appreciated and admired and this has meant that I am now property manager, and working in a field that can utilise my previous professional experience.
It is a real eye opener to work for an employer who has complete understanding of their colleagues’ lives outside of the office.
I am able to work on early shifts so that I can collect my children from school; if they are sick I am able to work from home using my laptop and work phone; and by having an open dialogue with my manager I can agree flexible working arrangements so that I can attend many important family events such a school plays and sports days and not feel guilty.
What’s incredibly inspiring is that Metro Bank has three women on the executive leadership committee, all of whom have children, so you know that there are others who face the same challenges you do.
These women lead by example; they work incredibly hard and inspire colleague, and they also prioritise their families and show compassion. It’s amazing to know you work for a business that is human.
