We’ve built an inclusive and diverse working environment, where a healthy work life balance is promoted, and learning is encouraged. We believe in empowering our people with the tools and support they need to deliver their jobs, feel recognised for their contributions, and grow in their careers.

Our colleagues come from a variety of industries and share a passion: to offer a low cost, high-quality workplace pension and to deliver on our social mission.

We’ve come a long way since we were first established in 2010 and, with the support of our employees, we believe we have much more to achieve.

Our Inclusive & Diverse culture

We recognise the importance of having a diverse workforce and providing a service to a diverse public. Here at Nest we celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes and stigma and empower our employees. We hold regular diversity campaigns throughout the year; encourage our employees to volunteer (four days paid volunteering days); invite guest speakers and fundraise.

We have a theatre in our office and invite inspiring guest speakers to talk about things like mental health, sustainability and taking care of our environment, financial inclusion and more. We hold regular campaigns throughout the year such as International Women’s Day, Time to Talk Day, Pride, World Mental Health Day

We want to have a leadership that is reflective of society. Some of our targets are:

› 12% of our leadership and Executive Board to have a disability by 2025, as around 12% of the

UK’s working aged population have a disability.

› Our Executive Board to be at least 30% women and our leadership to be 50% women by 2025.

› Our Executive Board to be at least 13% BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) by 2025, as around 13% of the UK’s working aged population is BAME

In addition, the relocation to our new office in Canary Wharf in July 2018 has allowed us to commit and promote in full our Agile working culture.

We have implemented an extensive flexible working policy that benefits our employees and their family.

Our CEO, Helen Dean, Women in Finance has commitment to increase senior roles occupied by women of 50%.

Benefits

We offer a range of employment benefits to meet the needs of our diverse workforce.

It’s very important to me to help those that are disadvantaged or find themselves in very unfortunate circumstances so it’s great that Nest supports volunteering.”

“Nest have allowed me to study for my masters whilst I work. The flexibility around doing my full-time role and studying part time compliment together perfectly and this is due to work life balance, allowing me to excel in both in my own time. Also, I have the opportunity to implement the learnings of my degree with the opportunity to work shadow in the future at Nest with the full support of my line manager.”

Case Study:

Georgia from the Strategy team

georgia nest“I applied to the Policy Analyst role at Nest knowing a bit about the scheme as I had previously signed up as a self-employed member. After completing an MSc in public policy, working in financial services might not seem an obvious choice, but because Nest supports ordinary people to save for retirement it occupies a different space in the industry. For me, it was important to work somewhere that is doing something positive for society and Nest has that social purpose.
My role has given me the opportunity to learn about the huge breadth of work at Nest – from investment strategy to product design – and people are always generous with sharing their time and knowledge. There is a great range of experience here, from city high-flyers to former civil servants who helped to deliver auto enrolment policy. Now Nest is a scheme with over 7 million members and that sense of responsibility is taken very seriously throughout the organisation.
Nest’s executive team are accessible, the culture is open and not too corporate, and staff events like the quarterly town halls help to bring different teams together. I appreciate having access to the cycle to work scheme and volunteering days. I was also really impressed with the seamless office move to Canary Wharf in 2018. Flexible working is supported at all levels at Nest and several colleagues have taken extended paternity leave which sets a great example.
Admittedly, telling new people that you “work in pensions” can be a bit awkward. After a couple of seconds of silence, I usually find there’s a flood of questions as people are keen to demystify what pensions involve.”

Keith from the Test and Quality Assurance team

“I joined Nest as a Trainee Test Analyst right after graduating from university, and I was looking for a place to ease into a career. I do not think I could have found a place better than Nest, as they take pride in work-life balance and encouraging employees to work in a way that suits them best, which I feel has allowed individuals to develop their own work habits.
As a new starter, I have learnt a vast amount in my first few months, which consisted of training with the majority of the testing team and various other teams, which really showed me how approachable, knowledgeable and friendly the employees at Nest are. They are very open to sharing knowledge and are happy to offer help when it is needed, and I have never felt there was a shortage of support at any time.
Nest also encourages employees to take up offsite training or additional qualifications that you are interested in, or may benefit your skillset and personal development. I recently took a 5-day JavaScript introductory course which Nest has fully supported me for and am due to go on another course for Agile testing/development very soon. As someone who worried a little about joining a corporate organisation as a first job, I could not be happier with my current role, work environment and ability to progress.

More about Nest

The National Employment Savings Trust (Nest) was established in 2010 as a workplace pension scheme. It’s designed around the needs of employers and workers, offering a simple, high quality way to save for retirement.

Nest is a critical pillar of the government’s automatic enrolment programme, having originally been set up with a public service obligation (PSO) to accept any employer wishing to use the scheme for their auto enrolment duties.

However, we do much more than meet the regulatory minimum. We offer an award-winning pension fund and market-leading investment solutions that are run for the benefit of our members. In less than ten years, we’ve become one of the UK’s largest pension providers – and we aim to adapt our products and services as the UK pensions industry continues to change and evolve.
