Five different automotive brands. Group Functions. Trade specialists. Volkswagen Group UK has a unique culture, built on diversity, difference and a friendly rivalry that inspires us all. Across our brands, we learn, encourage and regularly challenge each other to think differently. We’re all together driven.
One in every five cars sold in the UK comes from the Volkswagen Group UK. When you take a look at our brands – Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles- that’s no surprise. Operating out of Milton Keynes, we sell approximately 500,00 vehicles a year, with a market share of almost 20%.
However, what really sets us apart is how we work. Volkswagen Group UK is a customer focused, nimble and commercially astute operation. Our people have a true passion for what they do, a genuine desire to go further for customers and to achieve real momentum in their careers.
We’re passionate about brands, about the automotive industry and about delivering great customer experiences. But at the same time, we’ve all got a life outside work too. We’re a flexible organisation that understands life doesn’t fit into the standard 9-5. We embrace flexible working arrangements and job-shares. We also know that people value different things, so along with a competitive salary, car and discretionary bonus, we offer a wide range of flexible benefits to suit you and your lifestyle.
How long have you worked in the business for?
Almost 16 years in a variety of roles and brands across the Group.
What does your job involve?
There are lots of exciting changes happening in the automotive industry such as the move towards electric vehicles. My job is looking towards the future for ŠKODA UK, agreeing what our priorities should be with the rest of the management team and making sure we have the right plans in place to get there.
How does working life fit alongside your home life?
For most of my career at Volkswagen Group UK I have worked full-time. However I am now working part-time which is perfect for us as a family. It means I can now do all the things I missed before such as the school run and generally be around more at this stage in my children’s lives – they are growing up fast and their lives are getting busier and more complicated!
What support did you receive from Volkswagen Group to help you as a Working Mum?
When I made the decision to go part-time, Volkswagen Group were fully supportive in finding an arrangement that worked for both of us. My manager is very understanding and on a practical level, always ensures that meetings are scheduled within my core hours which makes a difference. I feel lucky that I am able to work part-time and still have a rewarding career because I now feel more fulfilled at home and at work. I am grateful to Volkswagen Group for being so forward thinking (even if my children now call me the homework monster!).
What can a Mum considering a role at Volkswagen Group expect?
To feel valued and supported in her desire to be a successful working mum, with the opportunity for a wide and varied career in a brilliant organisation.
“Recent surveys show only 16% of employees in our sector are women and redressing that balance is hugely important. If you have diversity in your team, you have a more balanced approach, make better decisions, and satisfy more customers. It’s something we’re working on actively at Volkswagen Group and I’m delighted we’re starting to see the number of women in management climb in the right direction. We still have some way to go, but I believe a concentrated focus on attracting women into our organisation, developing their talents and supporting them to flourish is fundamental to changing things for the better.”
