More than half of employers offer enhancements to maternity pay above the statutory level, but most will not be offering additional paternity pay and pay that is more generous than the statutory entitlement, according to a survey by XpertHR.

The survey shows most enhanced maternity pay arrangements at the 263 organisations polled are subject to a minimum length of service. Most employers also say they do not expect high employee take-up of the new right to additional paternity leave.

Their research also finds that although half the organisations in the survey enhance paternity leave beyond the statutory minimum, fathers and partners of new mothers are still reluctant to use it, especially if the enhanced wage falls short of full pay.
