Shadow Childcare Minister

Jenny Chapman has been appointed shadow education minister with responsibility for childcare in Jeremy Corbyn’s reshuffle.

The Labour MP for Darlington  is a Vice Chair of Progress, a pressure group which is broadly viewed as supportive of Blairite policies.

She was elected as Councillor for Cockerton West Ward in Darlington in 2003, serving as Chair of Darlington’s Children’s Trust and Lead Member for Children’s Services at Darlington Borough Council until her election as Labour MP for the town in 2010.

Jenny has been a governor at four schools and colleges in Darlington and has volunteered at a number of charities and community groups in the town including Darlington Children’s Trust and Newblood Live, a youth music charity.

In October 2012 she was made Shadow Prisons and Probation Minister and serves as Secretary for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Victims and Witnesses of Crime.
