PepsiCo UK launches returner initiative

Career Progression

PepsiCo UK is seeking people who have taken a career break for its first ‘Ready to Return’ (R2R) initiative.

The company is looking for people with experience across supply chain, finance and sales who have taken a career break of at least two years to participate in a 10- to 12-week paid programme.

Participants will receive mentoring and coaching support, as well as training to refresh their skills and build new ones. When the programme finishes they will also be considered for open PepsiCo roles that match their skills and capabilities.

Jesper Petersen, Vice President, Human Resources, PepsiCo UK & Ireland, said: “Attracting and engaging a diverse range of people is critical to our success and at the heart of our business strategy…We want to attract and retain the best talent out there and hope that this programme will unveil some strong contenders.”

The programme was piloted in the US in 2017 and all the participants were offered contract extensions. Half are now in full-time employment at PepsiCo.

PepsiCo has a range of flexible working and diversity programmes, including:

  • Strategies for Success, a programme designed to accelerate the careers of talented female middle-managers. It provides a structured approach to development through personal coaching, mentoring and peer group learning and has resulted in 95% of participants feeling more confident to explore and experiment with their career
  • mentoring partnership with “Inspiring Women”, a campaign that connects employers with young women to break down gender stereotypes and help them achieve their full potential
  • An offer of special summer and winter hours during the months of June/July/August and December – employees whose roles are not time-critical can choose to work compressed hours and leave early on Fridays
