Over two-thirds of public sector managers claim they are not ready to deal with the cuts being announced in tomorrow’s Comprehensive Spending Review, says new research from Institute of Leadership & Management.
The research shows 15% of public sector managers have made no proper plans to deal with the cuts. Over a quarter says they are already working at full stretch, even though most anticipate frontline services will be affected.
Only 15% of the 809 public sector managers who took part in the survey said they would accept a pay cut and just 4% would be willing to accept flexible working options such as a career break which were used by the private sector earlier in the recession. Of those who would accept changes to their working conditions around a third said they would work fewer hours, go part time or job share.
