Regular overtime being taken away

I have been working for my company for 17 years and am contracted for 22.5 hours a week. However,  I have been working 30 hours for over five years. I have just been told they are cutting my hours back to 22.5 a week with only two weeks’ notice. Can they just do this?

Contract and pen

They cannot do this without proper consultation. As you have been doing these hours for so long the terms of your contract have become implied terms (Implied terms are terms of the employment contract that are not necessarily set out in writing or were agreed orally, but will nevertheless form part of the agreement between the employer and employee.)

Your employer isn’t able to change those hours without agreement and must then follow the correct consultation period/ support you to find an alternative role or consider redundancy.
