More jobs are available for finance graduates, according to a new survey.
Research by High Fliers reveals a leap in the number of opportunities for graduates – vacancies are now up by 18%.
Their survey of 100 top employers shows a recovery in finance jobs, but opportunities in the public sector have fallen by 11%.
The report – Graduate Market in 2010 – found job vacancies in banking, accountancy, investment banking have gone up by a third.
This has resulted in the average starting salary rising to £29,000 – up £2,000 from last year’s figure of £27,000.
Martin Birchall, managing director of High Fliers, said: ”University leavers from the class of 2010 are still facing huge competition to land a good graduate job this summer.
”Employers have already received an unprecented number of applications this year for their graduate vacancies and many organisations have now filled all their places for 2010 or have closed off their applications early.”
The report found only one in 10 employers will make cuts in recruitment next year.
On average, there are 45 applications for each job advertised.
