One in eight school breakfast clubs have fallen victim to budget cuts, according to a survey of teachers.

Some 3,000 of the over 20,000 breakfast clubs have been closed, according to a survey of 727 teachers by Kellogg's. Of those still running clubs, some 45% think they will be forced to close if other funding is not found.

Some 62% of teachers thought the closure of their breakfast club could lead to lower grades and 52% thought it would result in worse behaviour. Some 98% thought students who had eaten breakfast were better able to concentrate in class. Seventeen per cent of teachers thought some children wouldn't get breakfast if they didn't come to a club. Attendance and punctuality would also be badly affected, said teachers.

Kellogg's is launching a campaign to raise more than £300,000 for school breakfast clubs.
