Scottish returners sought for financial services back to work programme

Women returners has received Scottish Government funding to run a cross-company returnship programme for Financial Services in Scotland.

The organisation, which specialises in helping those who have taken a career break back to work, is working with leading employers such as TSB, Standard Life Aberdeen, RBS, Hymans Robertson and BNP Paribas to create placements which will start in April and run for three months.  Women returners says it hopes the programme “will kickstart returnships in Scotland”.

To launch the programme, Women Returners will be running two free events in Scotland on 17th January in Edinburgh and 18th January in Glasgow where the returners will be able to find out more about the opportunities available, network with the employers participating in the programme – and each other – and hear from Jamie Hepburn, MSP as to why the government are supporting women back into work.  They will also participate in a return-to-work workshop which will support them on their journey back to work.

The application process for the launch events opens today. Women who have taken a career break of 18 months or more will be eligible to apply directly to the companies taking part for returnships.  The positions are for professional level roles with a range of roles and areas available. Positions will be located in Edinburgh or Glasgow and surrounding areas including Stirling. The programme will equip returner with the skills, knowledge and experience to enable them to apply for permanent roles – with flexible options – at end of programme.

Those who are successful (up to 40 women) will receive full coaching support from Women Returners, an internal mentor and benefit from a cohort peer group.  The organisation says: “It is a fantastic opportunity for women to get recent and relevant experience to enable them to apply for permanent roles after the programme whilst benefiting from all the transition support put in place.”

The closing date for applications is 2 February 2018.
