Some 67 per cent of working mums say they would not be able to keep going if they didn’t have back-up from a network of friends and family, according to a survey by Tesco Baby.

The survey found mums have a support network of up to 10 close friends and family, which it dubs ‘Team Mum’, who help them to juggle work and family life.

Their own mums are for most the first port of call and two thirds said she was the one person they could not do without. A third said their mum looks after their children while they are at work.

The ‘Team Mum’ network saves mums on average £140 a month in childcare costs with most having up to 10 hours of support from their network a week. One in 20 gets more than 31 hours of help from ‘Team Mum’.
