What is formal consultation? Ask the expert

I am employed 35 hours a week and a colleague approached me informally about changing to flexi hours. I had a few concerns, but the day after I get a letter to say I had received consultation and that if I didn’t agree to the changes proposed within 30 days my employment would end. Can this happen?

There appears to have been a bit of a misunderstanding with your colleague! I would suggest that you speak with your manager and let them know that you have not agreed to any changes and you would like to remain as you are.   I am not sure on what basis they are saying that your contract would be terminated? If you are unable to resolve this after speaking with your manager, I would advise you to seek legal advice regarding your situation. I’m more than happy for you to telephone me if you need any further advice and Lemon&Co offers assistance on a no win no fee basis.
