In the fourth of our series, we ask workingmums.co.uk’s Sales & Customer Service Assistant Claire Small who inspires her, whether she has had any mentors in her working life and whether her career priorities have changed since having children.
We wanted to start 2020 on a positive note, looking at the people who have inspired or helped us in our careers, even if indirectly, and we thought we’d start with the workingmums.co.uk team. This week it’s the turn of our Sales & Customer Service Assistant Claire Small.
workingmums.co.uk: Who has inspired you in your life – both in work and outside?
Claire Small: Definitely my mum, as even back when I was a child and there was little to no flexibility in workplaces, it always felt like she was around, although she still managed to keep working.
wms: Have you had a mentor[s] or someone who has helped you in your career?
Claire Small: So far in my career I haven’t actually had one, but I would definitely be open to having one!
wms: Has your career taken the path you thought when you started?
Claire Small: No, I originally thought I would be in the travel industry – an air hostess, travel agent etc – as that is what I studied at college.
wms: What are you most proud of in your working life?
Claire Small: That I have a good balance between home and work life due to being able to work from home. So I am always able to attend my kids events, shows etc
wms: Do you think what you are looking for in your work has changed at different stages of your working life?
Claire Small: Yes, before I had kids I thought working full time would always be the best option and part-time working seemed so odd to me. But having flexibility in a job whether it is working a shorter week or homeworking is amazing.
