Will I be able to get Maternity Allowance if I haven’t yet paid NI and tax?

I need some advice regarding whether I am entitled to Maternity Allowance. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I became self employed last year, running a small beauty business. I’ve been following the advice of an accountant and I’m due to pay my tax bill early next year so as yet I haven’t paid any NI/tax. My baby is due in the autumn and I’m hoping to take some leave. Will I be able to claim the Maternity Allowance later this year even though I’ve yet to pay my taxes?

Self Assessment Tax Return

If you file your Tax Return which states that you have paid NI for 2018/19 before you apply for Maternity Allowance then there will be no problem with you paying the tax bill in early 2020.
