Women entrepreneurs reluctant to ask for funding despite high success rate

Female entrepreneurs raise more money than their male counterparts, but still make up only 10% of entrepreneurs going for funding, according to crowd sourcing platform Crowdcube.

It says that although women appear reluctant to ask for funding, when they do they are more active than men and receive more backers per campaign and a higher average donation value, raising 10.75% more money than male run campaigns. Approximately 41% of successful campaigns are led by women, says the organisation.

However, it points out that the number of female investors is very low. Only 5% of the angel investors network in the UK are women. It says this is “unfortunate since female investors tend to invest more time in mentoring investees, which is something a female-owned business would particularly appreciate”.
