Workingmums.co.uk has launched its inaugural Top Employer Awards 2010 to recognise and celebrate pioneering organisations who offer leading practices in flexible working, diversity and work life balance.
Founder Gillian Nissim said: ‘’We’ve decided to launch the awards on the back of demand from employers and candidates alike – we want to share good practice and inspire others. Too often the case for flexible working is argued simply as an employee benefit. But many organisations have realised that more flexible ways of working offer huge benefits for employers too.’’
Workingmums.co.uk is now seeking nominations from organisations who are progressive in their flexible working practices and proactive in seeking to assist working parents combine successful careers with being a parent. There are five categories – applicants can enter more than one category.
* Overall Top Employer Award
* Innovation Award
* Commitment and Development Award
* Employee Engagement Award
* SME Award ( for companies with less than 250 employees)
Our latest survey showed 79% of jobseekers value flexibility and want to balance their lives with flexi-hours, part-time or home-working.
‘’As more and more women need and want to remain in the workplace after having children, and fathers too seek more flexibility so that they can be fully involved in family life, the impetus for change is only likely to increase,’’ said Ms Nissim.
‘’New technology makes increased flexibility not only possible, but necessary in today’s workplace. Our changing demographics show that women graduates already outnumber their male counterparts. Many of these will go on to have children after accumulating years of experience in the workplace, experience which employers cannot afford to waste.
”Research studies show the benefits to companies of improved staff morale, reduced recruitment costs, higher retention rates, lower overheads and lower absence levels.’’
Closing date for nominations is 23rd July. The awards ceremony will be held at the Soho Hotel, London, on 5th October.
Judges include Andy Lake, editor of Flexibility.co.uk, Jennifer Liston-Smith, an expert in maternity coaching, Pip Dorkings from the Daycare Trust, and Gillian Nissim, Founder,  Workingmums.co.uk.
